Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day from the Domestic Dandy!

If you've received roses on this special day, here's a tip from my favorite book by Carlos Mota, Flowers Chic and Cheap.

To make your roses stand out from day one, Mr. Mota suggests gently opening up your rosebuds with a blow dryer.
The gentle warm air generated by the dryer, unfurls the petals for a lush and full bloom without the wait!
I recently tried this little trick on a centerpiece for a dinner party and it had my blooms awake and ready for our guests, and was a wonderful addition to our table!

Tie the knot

As valentine's day approaches, we are reminded that love is universal. In that spirit, gift your valentine a bow tie from Tie the Knot and support marriage equality.

Founded by Jesse Tyler Ferguson (you may know him from a little old show called "Modern Family) and FiancĂ© Justin Mikita, Tie the Knot "combines humor, style, fashion, art, and equality." Each season, they release a limited edition collection of bow-ties inspired by their everyday lives. When one purchases their one of a kind bow ties all proceeds go towards the fight for marriage equality.

Now one can be a stylish and  activist!
